How It Works

How is the estimate calculated?

1

Relative score

Every GPU and CPU is given a performance score normalized against a reference system (RTX 4070 + Ryzen 7 7700X).

2

Game weighting

Each game is tagged with how GPU- or CPU-dependent it is. Esports titles lean more on the CPU, AAA titles lean more on the GPU.

3

Resolution & settings

Extra multipliers are applied based on the chosen resolution and graphics preset — FPS drops at 4K and rises at Low settings.

4

RAM check

If your RAM is below the game's minimum, a heavy penalty applies; below the recommended amount, a lighter penalty applies.

5

DLSS / FSR / XeSS

You can pick Quality / Balanced / Performance modes for upscaling technologies like NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, or Intel XeSS. Since the GPU renders the scene at a lower internal resolution before upscaling it, this is reflected as a clear FPS boost in the calculation.

RAM Guide

How much RAM is enough?

4-8 GB

Insufficient / Outdated

Considered insufficient by today's standards. Windows and background apps (Discord, browser, Steam client, etc.) alone can use 3-4 GB. Combined with a modern AAA game, this level causes frequent stuttering, texture-loading delays, and sudden FPS drops. Only manageable for very old or extremely lightweight games.

16 GB

Today's Standard

This is the recommended and sufficient level for almost every game released after 2020. Most games in this tool also use 16 GB as their reference point. Choosing a 2x8 GB dual-channel kit over a single 16 GB stick gives extra memory bandwidth at the same total capacity, which is an added performance advantage.

32 GB

Streaming & Heavy Multitasking

If you want to stream with OBS, share your screen on Discord, keep dozens of browser tabs open, or run a virtual machine while gaming, this level gives you comfortable headroom. It usually doesn't give a noticeable FPS boost over 16 GB in the game itself — its real benefit is keeping the whole system smooth.

64 GB+

Content Creation / Workstation

Contributes almost nothing to gaming performance; this tier makes sense for professional workloads like video editing, 3D rendering, working with large datasets, or running several virtual machines at once. If you're only gaming, that money is usually better spent on an SSD or a stronger GPU.

TIP

Use Dual Channel

Using a 2x8 GB (or 2x16 GB) dual-channel kit instead of a single 16 GB stick can make a noticeable FPS difference, especially on integrated/APU graphics and CPU-bound games. Make sure you're using the correct motherboard slots (usually A2/B2).

TIP

RAM Speed (MHz) Matters Too

Speed matters as much as capacity. Especially on AMD Ryzen CPUs, memory speed directly affects the Infinity Fabric interconnect, so around 3200-3600 MHz on DDR4 or 5600-6000 MHz on DDR5 is generally considered the 'sweet spot'. Much slower kits can give noticeably lower performance even at the same capacity.

TIP

Don't Forget XMP / EXPO

The RAM kit you bought doesn't run at its advertised speed by default — you need to manually enable the XMP (Intel systems) or EXPO (AMD systems) profile in the BIOS. Otherwise your RAM keeps running at the much lower JEDEC standard speed (usually around 2133-2666 MHz) and falls short of the advertised performance.
